In addition to the team members you see listed here, the
Obesity Law & Advocacy Center is fortunate to have developed relationships
with medical professionals, providers and industry contacts all over the
country and has unique access to resources simply unavailable to other
practices. Walter and Kelley's long-time association with the American
Society for Bariatric Surgery (& especially its Executive Director
Georgeanne Mallory and its Executive Council) helps our clients get the
benefit of full knowledge of "what's going on" in bariatric
surgery. His consulting work with Inamed Corporation and Ethicon
Endosurgery allows him access to expertise and information not easily
obtained.
The Obesity Law & Advocacy Center is a founding member
of the Obesity Coalition, started by Henry Buchwald, M.D., PhD of Minneapolis,
Minnesota. The Coalition is a diverse group of high-powered
organizations with the shared goal of working to help treat and prevent the
diseases of obesity and morbid obesity. Other members include the
American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, the American
Obesity Association, Shape Up America! and many other professional medical
societies such as the American Society of Bariatric Physicians, the American
Society of Pediatric Surgeons, the American Dietetic Association and so many others
who share this passion.
WALTER LINDSTROM, JR.
Established the
Obesity Law and Advocacy Center on March 1, 1996,
the first practice of its kind in the nation. It
remains the leading advocate for the rights of
persons suffering from obesity and morbid obesity
in matters ranging from disputes with health
insurers, HMO's and self-insured groups to
employment discrimination cases to claims under the
Americans With Disabilities Act.
Nationally recognized as
the preeminent expert in these
issues,Walter is a
consultant with some of the nation's largest
corporations whose primary aim is to bring safer
and better access to bariatric surgery procedures
to patients all over the world.
He is a regular member of the faculty of training
courses for the American Society of Bariatric
Surgery and the American College of Surgeons,
specializing in training practices, surgeons and
hospitals in the areas of reimbursement and risk
management.

the State Bar of California in 1987 and admitted to

Marymount University in 1981, again with Cum Laude

representation of morbidly obese persons. A
bariatric surgery patient himself (both gastric bypass and Lap-Band®) and personally
having experienced the discrimination, physical and
emotional pain of being morbidly obese, and now
considering himself an "obese person in remission," and carries an empathy and passion to his
representation that no advocate can share with
regard to obese and morbidly obese clients. His
personal battle to obtain insurance coverage for
his treatment, combined with his extensive
experience as an insurance law expert, make him the
best qualified and most passionate advocate for
those persons suffering from obesity and morbid
obesity.
He is a
Member of the American Society of Bariatric
Surgeons (ASBS) and is a member of that
organization's Insurance, Surgical Access and
Professional Liability Committees. He is also a
